Your CV is the first impression prospective employers have of you - so make it count!


There are many myths surrounding CVs, the following information is designed to make the most of you experience and background and display it in the most positive light in order to give you the best possible opportunities.



Personal information


To start with present your personal information:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of Birth
  • Telephone numbers (a number where you can be contacted during the day)
  • Email address (if applicable)
  • Any work permits (if applicable)
  • Any medical information which is applicable

Professional Experience


You then need to document your career experience - who you have been working for, in what capacity and for how long. Include your main duties and your day to day responsibilities.
Make sure the information is informative, to the point and of relevance.
Ensure you highlight particular achievements and any unique skills you gained.
Start with your current position or last position and work backwards.


Education and Qualifications


Remember to include all professional and vocational qualifications you have gained.
Document and construction related training courses such as Health and Safety at Work, First Aid certificate etc.
Complete this section by briefly recording your academic qualifications, again starting with the most recent and working backwards to your GCSEs\O’ levels.


Interests and Hobbies


This area is not necessary to fill in if you have no specific hobbies or interests, however if you are a keen footballer or golfer add in as a note, it’s a great way to build rapport with your interviewer if he / she shares the same interest.

  • To keep to the point, and keep to the truth
  • Include any particular achievements that you are proud of

Keep your information informative, you can always tailor write a letter to highlight specific strengths for specific positions
